Snapchat launches Custom Stories; Snapchatters can now create publicly-curated Custom Stories via the “Create Story” icon located in the top right corner of the Stories page. Users can select who can add to and see the Story in addition to setting up a geofence for where the Story is visible.

Instagram launches Location & Hashtag Stories; Location Stories are located at the top of the Explore section and feature curated Instagram Stories happening near a user’s location. Instagrammers can search for any location around the world in addition to specific hashtags that will surface relevant Stories based on the hashtag topic.

Facebook Live adds joint video streams and private chat rooms; Live Chat with Friends is a new Facebook Live functionality that allows users to stream a split screen video with another person remotely. Additionally, viewers can now converse in a private chat room with a Facebook friend while watching a live stream.

Twitter launches Direct Message Cards; Direct Message Cards is a new promoted Tweet ad unit that drives users to customizable experiences, like a chatbot, within a Twitter Direct Message. The Direct Message Card can include either an image or video and up to four call-to-action buttons.
